I have a friend who lost a loved one and spent two years still mourning and crying everyday before going to bed. It turned out everything we kept saying to him over the years – in terms of encouragement, helped him to heal eventually. We didn’t know we were making that kind of an impact at the time.

When is the best time to worship God? In great times, when you’re on top of the world? In mediocre times, when everything is going well? Or in painful times, when your life is crashing down around you? When sickness takes away your health, when your loved ones die, when you lose everything you value?
In the Bible, a man named Job in one day lost everything he owned, his servants were all murdered and his sons and daughters died in a sudden accident. The first thing he did is something we naturally do in painful times. He grieved for what he had lost. But his second action is so different from how we respond to trials in our own lives. Even while grieving, he fell to the ground and worshiped God. We get angry with God, we accuse Him of not loving or caring for us. We fear that God has forsaken us, and so we turn away from God. Or we beg Him and promise that we’ll worship Him after He restores our hearts and heals our body. We tell Him that if He really loves us, to prove it and then we’ll finally stop sinning, start witnessing, etc.
Multiple times in the New Testament, Jesus tells someone “your faith has healed you”. When we are experiencing pain, it feels like God is playing a mean trick on us by demanding that we believe we have healing while we still feel the pain, or that He is asking us to praise Him while He seems so distant.
But the truth is actually the reverse. Faith comes from knowing deep down who God is, and when we know that in our hearts, worship is the natural result because He is the God of healing, He is the creator, He does sustain and protect us, He does give us grace for today, hope for tomorrow, and assurance for eternity. When we truly know who He is, then we have to acknowledge Him in worship. That doesn’t mean pretending that we aren’t in pain.
We enter into God’s healing presence when we worship and find what we need all along.

In this lifetime there will be many happy times and joys a person shall experience. But if the depression is not caused by some sort of chemical imbalance, but due more to circumstances, counseling may be the best option to take.
The different causes of depression will vary between different people.What doesn’t even affect one person, can make another person suffer depression severely.What makes it realy hard to handle someone with depression is because that person’s emotions are already real fragile.It is going to take counseling that is compassionate to be able to deal with it.
Not knowing the proper way to address someone in depression can be devastating.Extreme instances where there is a good chance of suicide happening. Or even depression causing a person to not be able to function socially could be a result.
It is during times such as these that a depression counselor may have to be useed to deal with it.It is a real fine line you have to balance when determining if a person is just going through a temporary depression or is it something more severe.
Talking with a person and seeing if it goes on for several weeks is a good indicator. If it does go several weeks, you may need to seek professional help.

Surviving Depression

So once you find yourself at that point, there are several things you have to do. Because sometimes imbalances in your body or chemistry in your brain can cause depression, you may need to treat it medically. You would treat it with antidepressant drugs.
Of course as a counselor, I prefer to treat it through depression counseling.A counselor helps a person start to get to the root of their depression and come to grips with it.
They can use another form of therapy such as cognitive behavior therapy which addresses how you think. The goal being to question your negative thoughts and turn them positive.
A therapist can also help you use relaxation techniques. If the depression is caused by stress, using relaxation will help combat that form of stress.
Most of all a depression counselor will be the most effective person to find out what is causing the depression.
They are good in finding out if there was something that happened recently that may cause this.They can investigate and determine if it is caused by something from the past. Or they can find out if it is caused by something going on in your body.Whether there was some physiological change.
Depression is a treatable condition. But without knowing the cause, you can’t treat it. That is where finding a good therapist or counselor can help tremendously.
